This course prepares individuals to become community educators knowledgeable in HIV basics such as prevention, transmission, testing and HIV-related statutes and policies. Individuals will learn how to effectively communicate basic HIV messages in a sensitive, non-judgmental style using different strategies for various audiences. Participants will demonstrate their knowledge and gain public speaking skills through communication exercises. Participants will also gain tools and resources that can be used in providing HIV education in group settings.
No prior knowledge is expected for this course.
This training will provide:
- Education about HIV transmission, epidepiology, testing, and treatment
- Tools for HIV education
- Practice explaining HIV information to a group
Training Length: 8 hours. We will break for lunch at 12pm.
Continuing Education Units: 7 CEUs for Nurses, Social Workers, and LADC/LPCs.
Cost: $110, $85 for students
JustUs Health coordinates a volunteer speakers bureau that provides certified instructors the chance to conduct HIV education in community settings such as chemical dependency treatment centers, colleges, social service agencies, and more. If you would like to become involved with this program, you must have completed the HIV Educator training to obtain certification. Your involvement in this program is voluntary and there is no time commitment required.
